About
My name is Ellie and I've been a Front End Developer since 2018. I've been working at Kraken (part of the Octopus Energy group) since 2019, where I've worked on a range of customer-facing products for energy and water companies in the UK and Europe. Most recently I've been working on a user portal for Severn Trent, Portsmouth Water and Leep Utilities. Previously I worked on London Power and M&S Energy, as well as Octopus Energy in the UK, Spain and Italy.
React, Typescript and NextJS are my day-to-day tools of choice. My superpower is banging out new and/or improved features as quickly as reasonably possible, with code that's hopefully not too shabby. Despite this, I do have a special interest in i18n and l10n, as well as testing and a11y.
Before becoming a software engineer, I studied music at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, with six months spent at Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague. I received scholarships throughout my time there, and graduated in 2017.
Outside of work and music, I'm also in the gym almost every day: picking up heavy circles, doing dance classes and training for tower runs. My hobbies include watercolour painting, travel, hiking, cooking and reading. I'm a huge Eurovision super fan and I quote Top Gear and the Grand Tour too much.
